전남도, ‘K-김’ 세계화 속도…2026년산 물김 생산 지원 총력

전라남도가 ‘K-김’의 친환경 양식 기반을 강화하고 글로벌 시장 주도권을 확보하기 위해 2026년산 물김 생산 지원에 총력을 기울이고 있다.

전남도에 따르면 2025년산 물김은 수출 증가와 풍작에 힘입어 역대 최대인 8천404억 원의 위판고를 기록했다.

도는 이 기세를 이어가기 위해 2026년산 물김의 안정적 공급을 목표로 양식장 6만5천ha에 김발 92만 책을 설치, 약 50만 톤의 물김 생산을 추진 중이다.

현재는 김 종자를 그물에 부착하는 채묘 작업이 한창이며, 9월 말 기준 전체 계획의 40%를 완료했다.

10월 중순까지 채묘를 마무리하고, 첫 수확은 10월 25일경으로 지난해보다 약 5일 앞당겨질 전망이다.

전남도는 어업인들의 40년 숙원사업이던 김 활성처리제 개발을 위해 2022년부터 3년간 연구와 대규모 현장 시험을 거쳐 성공적으로 마무리했다. 현재 양식어가 공급을 위한 해수부 고시 개정을 건의해 의견수렴 절차가 진행 중이다.

또한 도는 서울대학교 산학협력단과 함께 ‘김 산업 국가전략산업 육성 연구용역’을 추진 중이다.

이를 통해 김 산업의 국가전략산업 지정 타당성을 확보하고, 국립김산업진흥원 설립 및 국제 수출단지 조성 등 ‘K-김 산업 클러스터’ 구축 방안을 구체화할 계획이다.

고품질 김 생산 기반 조성을 위해 도는 육상채묘 및 냉동망 시설, 인증 부표, 양식 자동화 장비, 친환경 유기수산물 인증 지원 등에 총 530억 원의 예산을 투입하고 있다.

전창우 전남도 친환경수산과장은 “올해는 좋은 품질의 김이 풍성하게 생산돼 어가 소득이 늘고 어촌 경제에 활력이 더해지길 기대한다.”며 “생산부터 가공·유통·수출까지 이어지는 전주기 체계를 착실히 구축해 우리나라 김 산업을 선도하겠다.”고 말했다.

Jeonnam Province Accelerates Globalization of “K-Gim”… Full Support for 2026 Seaweed ProductionNew Activation Agent Distribution and National Strategic Industry Research Underway
Jeollanam-do Province is going all out to strengthen the eco-friendly cultivation base for “K-Gim” (Korean dried seaweed) and to secure leadership in the global market by fully supporting the production of seaweed for the 2026 season.
According to the province, the 2025 seaweed harvest reached a record-high transaction value of 840.4 billion won, driven by booming exports and favorable yields.
Building on this momentum, the province aims to ensure a stable supply of raw seaweed by installing 920,000 seaweed nets across 65,000 hectares of aquaculture farms, targeting a total output of about 500,000 tons.
Currently, farms are in the midst of the seed attachment process (spore seeding), with around 40% completed as of late September. The process is expected to be finished by mid-October, and the first harvest is anticipated around October 25, about five days earlier than last year.
To resolve a long-standing challenge for seaweed farmers, the province has completed a three-year project (2022–2024) to develop and field-test a new activation treatment agent for seaweed cultivation. The provincial government has also requested a revision of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ public notice to enable the agent’s commercial distribution, and the proposal is currently under review.
In addition, Jeonnam Province, in cooperation with the Seoul National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, is conducting a research project on fostering the seaweed industry as a national strategic industry. Through this study, the province aims to establish the justification for national designation, while drawing up detailed strategies to build the National Seaweed Industry Promotion Institute and an international export complex, forming a comprehensive “K-Gim Industry Cluster.”
To support high-quality seaweed production, the province is investing 53 billion won in onshore seeding and freezing facilities, certified buoys, automated aquaculture equipment, and organic aquaculture certification support.
Jeon Chang-woo, Director of Jeonnam’s Eco-Friendly Fisheries Division, said,
“We expect this year’s high-quality seaweed production to increase fishermen’s income and revitalize coastal economies. We will steadily establish an end-to-end system that connects production, processing, distribution, and export to lead Korea’s seaweed industry into the global era.”
