전라남도가 지리산과 섬진강을 기반으로 한 구례군의 지속 가능한 발전 전략을 제시하며, 천년의 문화유산을 품은 구례를 AI시대 인재들의 영감과 치유의 공간으로 육성하겠다는 비전을 밝혔다.

전라남도는 6일 구례군 The-K 지리산가족호텔에서 김영록 전남도지사, 김순호 구례군수, 장길선 구례군의회 의장, 이현창 도의원, 지역 청년과 주민 등 120여 명이 참석한 가운데 ‘구례군 정책비전투어’를 개최했다.

김순호 군수는 “구례가 지닌 지리산과 섬진강은 대한민국 어느 지역도 갖지 못한 독보적 자산”이라며 “이 자원을 활용한 핵심 사업인 지리산 케이블카 추진에 도의 적극적인 지원을 부탁드린다.”고 말했다.

이에 대해 김영록 지사는 “이재명 정부 출범 이후 오픈AI, SK, 삼성 등 첨단기업이 전남으로 몰려들고 있다”며 “지리산과 섬진강, 천년문화유산이 공존하는 구례는 첨단기업 인재들이 영감을 얻는 힐링 거점으로 성장할 것”이라고 강조했다.

이날 전남연구원은 구례의 생태·문화 자원을 중심으로 한 ‘지리산 명품 관광벨트’ 구상 등 지역 발전의 미래 비전을 발표했다.

발표된 구례 발전 10대 핵심 비전은 자연과 사람이 만나는 섬진강 복원, 사성암·오산권 휴식·명상 관광지화, 지리산 온천권역 대개조, K-사찰 여행의 거점 육성, 지리산 명품 관광벨트 구축, 일·여행·정주가 결합된 신주거 플랫폼 도입, 산악레포츠 산업 육성, 대한민국 재생유기농업 1번지 실현, 지리산 산야초 산업화 허브 조성, 동서 화합 교통 네트워크 강화 등이다.

정책현안 토론에서는 지리산 케이블카, 수해 복구사업, 지역 도로망 확충 등 다양한 현안이 논의됐다.

김영의 지리산케이블카설치추진위원장은 “국립공원 환경 복원과 국가균형발전을 위해 영·호남에 각각 한 곳씩 케이블카 설치가 필요하다”고 강조했다.

이에 김 지사는 “환경부 주관으로 논의 중인 사안이지만, 구례가 최적지임을 지속적으로 알리고 중앙정부 조율을 건의 중”이라며 “도에서도 함께 노력하겠다.”고 답했다.

또한 김 지사는 “2020년 수해 이후 미비한 시장 시설현대화 구간 개선에 10억 원 한도 내에서 도비를 지원하겠다.”고 약속하며 주민들의 호응을 얻었다.

이 밖에도 주민들은 간전~광양 옥룡 간 도로 개설, 국도 19호선(냉천IC~화개) 확·포장, 여자씨름 전용경기장 건립, 한국압화박물관 인프라 개선, 서시천체육공원 조성 등을 건의했다.

김영록 지사는 “구례는 생태와 문화, 사람이 어우러지는 전남의 보석 같은 고장”이라며 “지리산과 섬진강이 중심이 되는 구례형 발전 모델로 AI시대 전남의 새로운 미래를 열겠다.”고 말했다.

“Gurye, a Thousand-Year Cultural Heritage Site, to Become an Inspiration Hub for Talents in the AI Era”
― Jeonnam Province presents 10 key visions centered on Mt. Jirisan and the Seomjingang River for balanced regional development ―
Jeollanam-do Province has unveiled a comprehensive development strategy for Gurye County, aiming to transform the region—rich with the thousand-year cultural heritage of Mt. Jirisan and the Seomjingang River—into a healing and inspiration hub for talents in the era of artificial intelligence.
On the 6th, the province held the “Gurye Policy Vision Tour” at The-K Jirisan Family Hotel in Gurye, attended by Jeonnam Governor Kim Yung-rok, Gurye County Mayor Kim Soon-ho, Gurye County Council Chair Jang Gil-seon, Provincial Assembly Member Lee Hyun-chang, and about 120 local residents and youth representatives.
Mayor Kim Soon-ho stated, “Mt. Jirisan and the Seomjingang River are unparalleled natural assets that no other region in Korea possesses,” urging the province’s strong support for the Jirisan Cable Car Project, one of the county’s core development initiatives.
Governor Kim responded, “Since the launch of the Lee Jae-myung administration, cutting-edge companies such as OpenAI, SK, and Samsung have been expanding into Jeonnam,” adding, “With its pristine nature and thousand-year cultural heritage, Gurye will grow into a healing hub that inspires innovators and talents from advanced industries.”
During the event, the Jeonnam Research Institute presented a future development blueprint for Gurye, highlighting the “Jirisan Premium Tourism Belt” project based on the region’s rich ecological and cultural resources.
The 10 Core Visions for Gurye’s Development include:
Restoration of the Seomjingang River as a space where nature and people coexist,
Transforming O-san and Saseongam Temple into meditation and relaxation tourism zones,
Large-scale renewal of the Jirisan hot spring area,
Establishing Gurye as a hub for K-temple tourism and Buddhist culture,
Creating the Jirisan Premium Tourism Belt,
Introducing a new “Work + Travel + Living” residential platform in Gurye-eup,
Fostering the mountain outdoor sports industry,
Building Gurye as Korea’s No. 1 regenerative organic agriculture base,
Developing the Jirisan medicinal herb industry into a research–production–experience hub, and
Strengthening east–west transportation networks to promote national unity.
In the policy discussion session, key local issues such as the Jirisan cable car, post-flood recovery, and road infrastructure improvements were actively debated.
Kim Young-ui, Chair of the Jirisan Cable Car Promotion Committee, emphasized, “For environmental restoration of the national park and balanced national development, cable cars should be installed in both Yeongnam and Honam regions.”
Governor Kim replied, “Although the issue is under review by the Ministry of Environment and faces challenges due to inter-regional competition, we are continuously appealing that Gurye is the optimal site and are urging the central government for coordination,” pledging to continue efforts together with the county.
He also promised, “To enhance the market environment and improve convenience, Jeonnam Province will provide up to 1 billion won (KRW) to support modernization projects for the traditional market facilities damaged by the 2020 floods,” drawing positive reactions from residents.
Residents additionally proposed projects such as the construction of the Ganjeon–Gwangyang Okryong road, the expansion of National Road No. 19 (Naengcheon IC–Hwagae), a dedicated women’s Ssireum (Korean wrestling) arena, improvements to the Korean Pressed Flower Museum, and the development of Seosicheon Sports Park.
Governor Kim Yung-rok concluded, “Gurye is a true gem of Jeonnam, where ecology, culture, and people coexist,” adding, “Through a Gurye-style development model centered on Mt. Jirisan and the Seomjingang River, we will open a new future for Jeonnam in the age of AI.”
