전남 1호 ‘대한민국 관광도로’ 탄생…

전라남도가 국토교통부가 처음 시행한 ‘2025 대한민국 관광도로’ 지정 평가에서 여수 백리섬섬길(국도 77호선)을 전남 1호 관광도로로 공식 지정받았다.

전국 35개 노선 가운데 현장평가에 오른 10개 후보 중에서 최종 6개 노선만 지정된 가운데, 백리섬섬길이 당당히 이름을 올렸다.

이번 지정은 2024년 ‘도로법 시행령’ 개정 이후 처음으로 실시된 국가 차원의 관광도로 인증으로, 전남도가 용역예산 선제 편성, 익산지방국토관리청·여수시와의 협력, 철저한 자료 준비 등 발빠른 대응이 성과로 이어졌다는 평가다.

국토교통부는 관광·경관·문화·역사·도로·교통 등 관련 전문가로 구성된 평가위원회가 서면→현장→종합평가를 실시하고, 도로정책심의위원회 심의를 거쳐 최종 노선을 확정했다.

■ ‘섬을 잇는 23km 해양 파노라마’… 6개 교량이 만든 다도해 최고의 드라이브 라인
이번에 지정된 백리섬섬길은 여수 백야도~고흥 영남 23km에 걸친 국도 77호선 구간으로, 6개의 연륙·연도교를 따라 이어지는 국내 대표 해양경관 도로다.

다도해의 절경, 섬 문화의 다양성, 생태·해양자원 등이 어우러져 국내를 넘어 세계적 해안 관광 루트로 발전할 잠재력이 높다는 평가를 받았다.

특히 섬과 섬을 따라 이동하는 특성상, 체류형 관광상품 개발이 용이한 도로형 관광자원이라는 점이 큰 강점으로 꼽혔다.

■ 전용 표지판·관광정보 시스템 구축… 관광도로 브랜드화 본격화
전남도는 익산지방국토관리청 등 관계기관과 함께 관광도로 전용 이정표 설치, 관광정보 제공시스템 구축 등 브랜드화 작업을 본격 추진한다.

또 도로와 인근 관광자원을 연계한 다양한 사업도 발굴해 백리섬섬길을 남해안 대표 관광드라이브 코스로 자리매김 시킨다는 계획이다.

■ 김영록 지사 “백리섬섬길은 ‘살아있는 교량 박물관’… 세계적 해양관광도로로 도약”
김영록 전남도지사는 “여수 백리섬섬길은 단순한 도로가 아니라, 섬과 섬을 이어주는 살아있는 교량 박물관”이라며 “향후 관광도로 지정구간을 백야–돌산, 고흥–완도까지 확대해 남해안 해양관광의 대동맥으로 만들겠다.”고 밝혔다.

또한 “2026 여수세계섬박람회와 연계해 백리섬섬길을 세계적 해양관광도로로 발전시키고, 전남을 해양관광의 중심지로 우뚝 세우겠다.”고 강조했다.

**Jeonnam’s First ‘Korean National Tourist Road’ Unveiled
Yeosu Baekri Seomseom-gil Recognized as a Premier Coastal Scenic Route**
Jeollanam-do has secured its first-ever designation as a Korean National Tourist Road with the selection of Yeosu Baekri Seomseom-gil (National Route 77) in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s inaugural “2025 Korea Tourist Road” evaluation.
Out of 35 candidate routes nationwide, only 10 advanced to on-site evaluation, and 6—including Baekri Seomseom-gil—were ultimately selected.
This marks the first national-level certification conducted since the 2024 revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Road Act. Jeonnam is credited with achieving this outcome through proactive measures, including early allocation of budget for planning studies, close cooperation with the Iksan Regional Office of Construction and Management and Yeosu City, and thorough preparation for the evaluation.
The evaluation committee, composed of experts in tourism, landscape, culture, history, roads, and transportation, carried out a multi-step review—document screening, on-site inspection, and comprehensive evaluation—before the route was finalized by the Road Policy Deliberation Committee.
■ A 23km Marine Panorama Connecting Islands
Six Bridges Form One of Korea’s Finest Coastal Drive Routes
The designated section of Baekri Seomseom-gil spans 23 kilometers from Baekya Island in Yeosu to Yeongnam in Goheung, following a sequence of six interconnected sea-crossing bridges.
The road offers sweeping views of the Dadohae archipelago along with the region’s unique island culture and coastal ecology. It has been highly praised for its potential to grow into a world-class maritime tourism route.
Because the road links island to island, it holds strong advantages for developing stay-type tourism products, making it an exceptionally valuable tourism asset.
■ Dedicated Road Signs and Tourism Information System
Full-Scale Branding of the National Tourist Road
Jeonnam Province, in partnership with the Iksan Regional Office of Construction and Management, will install dedicated tourist road markers and build an integrated tourism information system.
The province will also develop additional support programs that link the roadway with nearby tourism resources, aiming to establish Baekri Seomseom-gil as the signature coastal drive route of Korea’s southern coast.

Governor Kim Young-rok stated, “Baekri Seomseom-gil is not merely a road—it is a living museum of bridges that connects island to island. We plan to extend the designated tourist road section from Baekya to Dolsan, and from Goheung to Wando, building a major marine tourism corridor along the southern coast.”
He added, “By linking this effort with the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, we will elevate Baekri Seomseom-gil into a world-class marine tourism road and firmly position Jeonnam as the hub of ocean tourism.”
