전라남도가 ‘함께 만드는 평화, 더 나은 미래’를 슬로건으로 내건 제22기 민주평화통일자문회의 전남지역회의 출범대회가 19일 도청에서 성대하게 개최됐다.

이날 행사에는 신임 부의장을 비롯한 자문위원 700여 명이 참석해 향후 2년간 전남에서 펼쳐질 평화·통일 활동의 힘찬 시작을 알렸다.

출범대회는 개회식, 자문위원 선서, 최병상 전남지역회의 부의장 등 간부위원 소개, 제22기 활동 방향 및 업무계획 보고, 자문위원 비전 발표, 대북·통일정책 특별강연, 통일 퍼포먼스 및 기념촬영 순으로 진행됐다.

■ 최병상 부의장 “통일은 이상이 아니라 우리의 현실적 과제”
취임사에서 최병상 부의장은 “통일은 막연한 꿈이 아니라 평화·경제·공동성장을 위한 현실적 목표”라며 “대화와 협력의 통로를 넓히고, 휴전협정을 항구적 평화체제로 전환하는 데 전남지역회의가 적극 나서겠다.”고 의지를 밝혔다.

또한 “한반도의 안전과 번영은 우리가 함께 책임져야 할 미래의 약속”이라며 자문위원들의 역할을 강조했다.

■ 김영록 전남도지사 “지금이 남북 협력 모멘텀 다시 세울 때”
김영록 도지사는 영상 축사를 통해 “APEC 이후 미·중 관계의 변화 속에서 남북 관계 복원과 협력 기반을 다시 만들어야 할 중요한 시기”라며 “전남지역회의 자문위원들이 국민주권 시대의 평화통일 담론을 이끌 핵심 역할을 해주길 바란다.”고 전했다.

■ 전남 자문위원 1,364명… 지역 통일 여론 형성에 민간역량 결집
제22기 민주평통은 국내외 2만 2,824명의 자문위원으로 구성된 대통령 직속 통일자문기구다.

이 가운데 전남지역회의는 총 1,364명(전체의 6%)이 위촉됐으며 임기는 2025년 11월 1일부터 2027년 10월 31일까지다.

전남지역회의는 평화통일 토론회, 지역 통일기반 조성사업, 대북·통일정책 관련 자문활동 등을 통해 도민의 통일 의지와 역량을 결집하는 관문 역할을 수행하게 된다.

Jeollanam-do held a grand inauguration ceremony for the 22nd National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC) Jeonnam Regional Assembly on the 19th at the provincial government building under the slogan “Creating Peace Together, Building a Better Future.”
More than 700 newly appointed advisors, including the new Vice Chair, attended the event, marking the beginning of Jeonnam’s peace and unification initiatives for the next two years.
The ceremony featured an opening session, advisor’s pledge, introduction of executive members including Vice Chair Choi Byeong-sang, a report on major plans and directions for the 22nd term, advisor vision statements, a special lecture on inter-Korean and unification policy, a peace-themed performance, and a commemorative photo session.
■ Vice Chair Choi Byeong-sang: “Unification is not an ideal—it's our practical mission.”
In his inaugural address, Vice Chair Choi Byeong-sang stated,
“Unification is not a vague ideal but a realistic national goal for peace, economic growth, and shared prosperity. Jeonnam’s Regional Assembly will work to expand channels for dialogue and cooperation and contribute to transforming the armistice into a permanent peace regime.”
He added, “The safety and prosperity of the Korean Peninsula is a promise for the future that we must fulfill together,” emphasizing the responsibility of the advisors.
■ Governor Kim Young-rok: “Now is the time to restore inter-Korean momentum.”
In a video congratulatory message, Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok said,
“Following the APEC summit, as the dynamics between the U.S. and China shift, now is a crucial time to restore inter-Korean relations and rebuild the momentum for cooperation. I hope that the Jeonnam Regional Assembly will lead public discourse on peaceful unification in this new era of citizen-centered governance.”
■ 1,364 Advisors in Jeonnam… Mobilizing civic capacity for regional unification dialogue
The 22nd NUAC is a presidential advisory body on unification policy composed of 22,824 advisors in Korea and abroad.
Among them, the Jeonnam Regional Assembly accounts for 1,364 advisors (6% of the total). Their two-year term runs from November 1, 2025, to October 31, 2027.
The Jeonnam Regional Assembly will lead peace and unification forums, local unification initiatives, and advisory activities on inter-Korean policy—serving as a key platform for gathering public will and strengthening regional capacity for unification.
