제9회 전국동시지방선거가 4개월 앞으로 다가온 가운데, 전남경찰이 선거범죄 차단을 위한 전면적 단속 체제에 돌입했다.

전남경찰청은 오는 3일부터 도내 22개 일선 경찰서에 선거사범 전담팀을 편성하고, 본격적인 선거사범 집중 단속에 들어간다고 밝혔다.

이번에 편성된 선거사범 전담팀은 총 167명 규모로, 선거일까지 상시 가동된다.
전남경찰은 선거 과정에서 반복적으로 발생해 온 고질적 불법행위를 사전에 차단하고, 공정하고 깨끗한 선거 질서를 확립하는 데 수사 역량을 집중한다는 방침이다.

■ 금품·허위사실·공무원 개입… ‘5대 선거범죄’ 집중 단속
전남경찰이 중점 단속 대상으로 설정한 선거범죄는 금품수수, 허위사실 유포, 공무원의 선거 개입, 선거폭력, 불법 단체 동원 등 5대 선거범죄다.
특히 단순 가담자 처벌에 그치지 않고, 배후에서 범행을 기획·지시한 정황이 확인될 경우 지위 고하나 소속 정당을 불문하고 무관용 원칙을 적용한다.
불법자금의 흐름을 끝까지 추적해 자금 원천까지 철저히 수사한다는 점을 분명히 했다.

■ SNS·매크로 이용 여론조작도 엄정 대응
전남경찰은 최근 선거 국면에서 급증하고 있는 SNS와 매크로 프로그램을 이용한 허위·조작 정보 유포 행위에 대해서도 강력 대응에 나선다.
온라인 공간에서의 조직적 여론 왜곡, 익명 계정을 활용한 허위사실 확산 역시 전통적 선거범죄와 동일한 수준으로 엄정 수사할 방침이다.

■ “경찰은 중립, 불법엔 단호”
모상묘 전남경찰청장은 “경찰은 선거 과정에서 철저한 정치적 중립을 유지하면서도, 불법행위에 대해서는 단호하게 대응하겠다.”며 “지역 선거관리위원회와 검찰 등 관계기관과의 유기적 협력 체계를 통해 단속에 총력을 다하겠다.”고 밝혔다.
이어 “선거 관련 불법행위를 목격하거나 제보할 경우 112 또는 인근 경찰관서에 적극 신고해 달라”며 “도민 모두가 공명선거 실현에 동참해 주시길 바란다.”고 당부했다.

전남경찰은 이번 지방선거를 불법과 특권이 설 자리를 잃는 선거, 원칙과 법치가 작동하는 선거로 만들기 위해 선거일까지 고강도 단속 기조를 유지할 계획이다.

With the 9th Nationwide Local Elections just four months away, the Jeonnam Provincial Police have launched a full-scale crackdown aimed at preventing election-related crimes.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced that starting on the 3rd, it will establish dedicated election crime investigation teams at all 22 police stations across the province and begin intensive enforcement operations.
A total of 167 officers have been assigned to these specialized teams, which will operate continuously until Election Day. The police plan to concentrate their investigative capabilities on proactively blocking recurring and entrenched illegal practices during elections and on ensuring a fair and clean electoral process.
■ Five Major Election Crimes Targeted
The Jeonnam police have identified five major categories of election crimes for focused enforcement:
bribery and illegal provision of money or goods, dissemination of false information, interference in elections by public officials, election-related violence, and illegal mobilization of organizations.
The crackdown will not be limited to punishing minor participants. If evidence is found that crimes were planned or directed from behind the scenes, the police will apply a zero-tolerance policy regardless of political affiliation or position. Authorities emphasized that they will thoroughly trace illegal funds all the way to their sources.
■ Strict Action Against SNS and Macro-Based Manipulation
The police will also respond firmly to the growing use of social media platforms and macro programs to spread false or manipulated information during election periods.
Organized online manipulation of public opinion and the dissemination of false information through anonymous accounts will be investigated with the same level of rigor as traditional election crimes.
■ “Neutrality in Politics, Zero Tolerance for Illegality”
Jeonnam Police Commissioner Mo Sang-myo stated, “The police will maintain strict political neutrality throughout the election process, while responding decisively to any illegal acts.” He added, “We will work in close cooperation with local election commissions, prosecutors, and other relevant institutions to ensure thorough enforcement.”
He also urged citizens to actively report any election-related illegal activities by calling 112 or contacting their nearest police station, calling on residents to participate in ensuring a fair and clean election.
The Jeonnam police said they will maintain a high-intensity enforcement stance until Election Day, aiming to make this local election one in which illegality and privilege have no place, and where the principles of law and fairness prevail.
