전라남도보건환경연구원이 전국 시·도 보건환경연구원 대기배출원 공동연구 워크숍에서 기후에너지환경부 장관 기관표창을 받으며 지역 대기환경 개선의 대표 연구기관으로서 위상을 다시 한 번 확인했다.
이번 워크숍은 최근 제주도 라마다 함덕 호텔에서 열렸다.
전국 시·도 보건환경연구원 대기 분야 공동 연구사업은 대기배출시설의 오염물질 특성을 조사해 대기관리 정책의 실효성을 높이고, 중앙정부와 지방자치단체의 협력을 강화하기 위해 1999년부터 추진돼 온 핵심 환경 연구 사업이다.
그동안 배출시설 유형별 배출계수 개발을 비롯해 각 지역 환경현안 해결을 위한 정책기반 마련에 중요한 역할을 해왔다.
전남보건환경연구원은 국립환경과학원과 긴밀한 협조체계를 유지하며 공동연구를 주도적으로 수행해 왔으며, 이 과정에서 과학적 데이터 기반의 정책 수립, 대기오염 대응력 강화, 환경교육 및 홍보사업 추진 등 지역 환경관리 수준을 한층 끌어올렸다는 평가를 받았다.
특히 연구원은 도내 대기환경 문제를 사전에 진단하고 대응할 수 있는 체계를 구축하며, 주민 대상 교육·홍보 활동 등을 통해 환경보전 인식 확산에도 앞장서고 있다.
이 같은 지속적 노력은 전남의 지속가능한 대기환경 관리 기반을 다지는 데 크게 기여해 왔다.
안양준 전남도보건환경연구원장은 “우리가 추진해 온 대기환경 개선 노력이 국가로부터 공식적으로 인정받은 뜻깊은 성과”라며 “탄소중립 시대를 대비한 과학적 연구와 협력을 더욱 강화해 지속가능한 미래 환경을 만드는 데 책임을 다하겠다.”고 말했다.

Jeonnam Institute of Health & Environment Recognized as Nation’s Top ‘Air Quality Research Institution’
― Awarded the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Citation… Leading Scientific Air Quality Policy in Jeollanam-do ―
The Jeollanam-do Institute of Health and Environment has reaffirmed its status as a leading agency in improving regional air quality after receiving the Minister of Climate, Energy and Environment Citation at the national Joint Workshop on Air Emission Source Research held for provincial health and environment institutes.
The workshop was recently held at the Ramada Hamdeok Hotel in Jeju.
The nationwide joint research initiative among provincial health and environment research institutes was launched in 1999 to investigate pollutant emission characteristics of air pollution–emitting facilities, enhance the effectiveness of air quality management policies, and strengthen cooperation between the central and local governments.
This long-standing initiative has played a vital role in establishing policy foundations to address regional air quality challenges, including the development of emission factors tailored to specific facility types.
The Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment has maintained a close cooperative system with the National Institute of Environmental Research, taking a leading role in joint research. Through this effort, the institute has significantly contributed to elevating regional environmental management by promoting data-driven environmental policy, stronger air pollution response capacity, and expanding environmental education and public awareness programs.
In particular, the institute has established a preemptive diagnostic and response system for air quality issues in the province and has actively carried out education and promotional campaigns to raise public awareness of environmental conservation.
These continuous efforts have greatly contributed to building the foundation for sustainable air quality management across Jeollanam-do.
Director Ahn Yang-jun of the Jeonnam Institute of Health and Environment stated,
“Our long-standing efforts to improve air quality have now been formally recognized at the national level,” adding,
“We will further strengthen scientific research and cooperation to help build a sustainable, carbon-neutral future.”
