AI 시대의 문턱에서 지역 언론의 역할을 다시 묻는 취임사가 해남에서 울려 퍼졌다.
AI호남뉴스 발행인 박인석이 해남군 출입기자협회 회장으로 공식 취임하며, 앞으로 2년간 협회를 이끌게 됐다.
이번 취임은 단순한 직책 승계를 넘어, 격동하는 인공지능 시대 속에서 지역 언론이 어떤 방향으로 나아가야 하는가에 대한 분명한 메시지를 담고 있다.
취임사에서 박인석 신임 회장은 먼저 자신의 27년 언론 인생의 출발점을 되짚었다.
“27년 전, 해진신문에서 처음 기자 생활을 시작했습니다. 지역의 작은 사건 하나, 군민 한 사람의 목소리 하나가 얼마나 소중한지 그때 배웠습니다.”
박 회장은 환경일보 전남본부장으로서, 그리고 AI호남뉴스 발행인으로서 쌓아온 현장 경험을 바탕으로, 이제 언론의 역할은 단순한 ‘빠른 전달’을 넘어 ‘책임 있는 해석’과 ‘신뢰 회복’으로 나아가야 한다고 강조했다.
“정보는 넘치지만, 신뢰는 부족한 시대”, 취임사의 핵심 메시지는 분명했다.
AI와 디지털 기술이 일상이 된 시대, 언론이 가야 할 길은 기술 숭배도, 선정적 속보 경쟁도 아니다 라는 것이다.
“정보는 넘쳐나지만, 신뢰는 오히려 줄어들고 있습니다.
AI 시대의 언론은 더 겸손해야 하고, 동시에 더 깐깐해야 합니다.”
박 회장은 특히 군민이 주인인 정보화 시대를 여러 차례 강조했다.
“언론은 더 이상 일부의 전유물이 아닙니다.
군민 한 사람, 한 사람이 정보의 주인입니다.
우리는 그 권리를 지켜주는 역할을 해야 합니다.”
지자체와 군민을 잇는 ‘교량 언론’ 박인석 신임 회장은 해남군 출입 기자협회가 지향해야 할 역할을 분명히 규정했다.
비판을 위한 비판도, 홍보를 위한 홍보도 아닌 ‘교량 역할’이다.
“지자체의 정책은 군민에게 정확히 전달돼야 하고, 군민의 목소리는 행정에 왜곡 없이 전달돼야 합니다.
그 사이에 언론이 서 있어야 합니다.”
그는 앞으로 협회 운영의 중점 과제로

▲ 군민 생활과 직결된 정보 제공
▲ AI·디지털 시대에 소외되는 지역과 계층을 조명하는 보도를 제시했다.
“희망을 전하되, 옳은 소리를 하겠습니다”
취임사의 마지막은 언론인으로서의 다짐이었다.
“저는 겸손하지만 깐깐한 언론, 조용하지만 책임지는 언론, 그리고 군민과 함께 숨 쉬는 언론을 만들고 싶습니다.”
이어 그는 이렇게 약속했다.
“격동하는 AI 시대 속에서도 군민에게는 희망을, 지역사회에는 방향을,
행정에는 긴장과 신뢰를 동시에 전하는 책임 있는 언론이 되겠습니다.”
이번 박인석 회장의 취임은 AI 시대 지역 언론의 정체성을 다시 세우는 출발선이라는 평가를 받고 있다.
기술이 앞서가는 시대일수록, 사람의 삶을 중심에 둔 언론의 역할은 더욱 중요해진다는 점을 분명히 했기 때문이다.
해남군 출입 기자협회가 앞으로 2년간 어떤 목소리를 내고, 어떤 기준을 세워갈지 지역사회의 시선이 모아지고 있다.
그리고 그 중심에서, 군민과 함께하는 책임 언론의 실험이 이제 막 시작됐다.

“In the AI Era, Journalism Must Stand with the People”

A New Two-Year Term Begins for Responsible Journalism Bridging Citizens and Local Government
At the threshold of the AI era, an inaugural address questioning the role of regional journalism resonated strongly in Haenam.
Park In-seok, publisher of AI Honam News, has officially been inaugurated as President of the Haenam County Press Correspondents Association, beginning a two-year term at the helm of the organization.
This inauguration goes beyond a routine change in leadership. It delivers a clear message about the direction regional journalism must take amid the rapidly transforming age of artificial intelligence.
In his inaugural address, President Park first reflected on the starting point of his 27-year career in journalism.
“Twenty-seven years ago, I began my life as a reporter at Haejin Newspaper.
It was then that I learned how precious even the smallest local incident, and the voice of a single citizen, truly is.”
Drawing on his extensive on-the-ground experience as Jeonnam Bureau Chief of the Environment Daily and as publisher of AI Honam News, Park emphasized that journalism must now move beyond mere speed and toward responsible interpretation and the restoration of trust.
“An Age of Information Abundance, but a Deficit of Trust”
The core message of his inaugural speech was unmistakable.
In an era where AI and digital technologies have become part of everyday life, the path journalism must follow is neither blind faith in technology nor sensational competition for breaking news.
“Information is overflowing, yet trust is steadily declining.
Journalism in the AI era must be more humble—
and at the same time, more exacting.”
Park repeatedly underscored that this is an era in which citizens are the true owners of information.
“Journalism is no longer the exclusive domain of a select few.
Every citizen is now a rightful owner of information.
Our role is to protect that right.”
A “Bridge” Between Local Government and Citizens
President Park clearly defined the role the Haenam County Press Correspondents Association must pursue: not criticism for its own sake, and not publicity for convenience, but a bridge between citizens and government.
“Policies of local governments must be conveyed accurately to the people,
and the voices of citizens must reach the administration without distortion.
Journalism must stand in between.”
As key priorities for the association, he outlined:
Strengthening oversight and watchdog functions over local administration
Providing information directly connected to citizens’ daily lives
Highlighting regions and communities marginalized in the AI and digital era
“We Will Deliver Hope—But Also Speak the Truth”
The closing of his address was a reaffirmation of journalistic responsibility.
“I aspire to build journalism that is humble yet rigorous,
quiet yet accountable,
and one that breathes together with the people.”
He concluded with a firm pledge:
“Even amid the turbulence of the AI era,
we will deliver hope to citizens,
direction to our community,
and both tension and trust to the administration—
as a truly responsible press.”
Park In-seok’s inauguration is being widely viewed as a starting line for redefining the identity of regional journalism in the AI age.
As technology advances ever faster, his message makes one point clear:
the role of journalism centered on human life and lived experience is more important than ever.
Attention is now focused on what voice the Haenam County Press Correspondents Association will raise, and what standards it will establish over the next two years.
And at its center, an experiment in responsible, citizen-centered journalism has just begun.
