국가유산청이 5월 5일 어린이날을 맞아 전국 주요 궁능과 문화유산 시설을 무료 개방하고, 가족 단위 체험 프로그램을 대폭 확대 운영한다.

우선 4대궁(경복궁·창덕궁·덕수궁·창경궁)과 종묘, 조선왕릉은 12세 이하 어린이 동반 보호자 2인까지 무료 입장이 가능해, 도심 속 역사 체험 기회가 넓어진다.

경복궁 광화문 일대에서는 ‘수문장 교대의식 어린이날 특별행사’가 열려 인형 탈 파수의식과 조선시대 군인 선발 시험을 체험하는 ‘갑사 취재 체험’이 진행된다.
대전 천연기념물센터에서는 지질·동식물 수장고 공개, 자연유산 골든벨, 페이스페인팅 등 참여형 프로그램이 운영되며, 전북 국립무형유산원은 민속놀이 체험과 어린이 음악극 ‘저승할망’을 선보인다.

또한 목포·태안 해양유물전시관에서는 바다유산 만들기 체험과 어린이 통합축제가 열리고, 경주 월성연구센터에서는 신라 기와 복원 체험, 금산 칠백의총에서는 자개부채 만들기 체험이 마련된다.

국립조선왕조실록박물관도 어린이 가족 대상 교육과 공연, 기념품 증정 행사로 관람객 맞이에 나선다.
국가유산청은 “국가유산을 단순 관람을 넘어 체험과 교육의 공간으로 확대해, 어린이와 가족이 함께 즐기고 배우는 계기가 될 것”이라며 “앞으로도 국민 생활 속 문화유산 향유 기회를 지속적으로 넓혀 나가겠다.”고 밝혔다.

The Korea Heritage Service will open major palaces and cultural heritage sites nationwide free of charge on Children’s Day, May 5, while significantly expanding family-friendly experiential programs.
Visitors will be granted free admission to the Four Grand Palaces (Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, and Changgyeonggung), Jongmyo Shrine, and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty for up to two accompanying guardians with children aged 12 or younger, offering greater opportunities to experience history in the heart of the city.
At Gyeongbokgung’s Gwanghwamun area, a special Children’s Day Royal Guard Changing Ceremony will take place, featuring a “Mascot Guard Ceremony” and an interactive “Gap-sa Recruitment Experience,” where children can try a selection test modeled after Joseon-era professional soldiers.
At the Natural Heritage Center in Daejeon, visitors can enjoy access to geological and biological storage facilities, along with interactive programs such as the Natural Heritage Golden Bell quiz and face painting. Meanwhile, the National Intangible Heritage Center in Jeonju will host traditional folk games and a children’s musical, “Jeoseung Halmang.”
In addition, marine heritage museums in Mokpo and Taean will offer hands-on activities and integrated Children’s Day festivals. Other programs include Silla roof tile restoration experiences at the Wolseong Research Center in Gyeongju and mother-of-pearl fan-making at Chilbaegui-chong Shrine in Geumsan.
The National Museum of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty will also welcome visitors with family-oriented educational programs, performances, and commemorative giveaways.
The Korea Heritage Service stated, “We hope these events will transform national heritage sites from simple viewing spaces into places of experience and education, where children and families can learn and enjoy together,” adding, “We will continue to expand opportunities for the public to engage with cultural heritage in their daily lives.”
