경선 결과 승복하며 ‘통합 완수’ 협력 선언

사랑하는 전남·광주 320만 시도민 여러분,
김영록입니다.

먼저 이번 더불어민주당 경선 과정에서,
저에게 무한한 지지와 성원을 해주신 시도민 여러분에게
진심으로 감사하다는 말씀을 드립니다.

전남·광주의 도약과 부흥을 위해 통합을 제안한 저는,
이번 경선에서 정말 아낌없이 뛰었고,
시도민 모두를 한 분 한 분을 만나기 위해 최선을 다했습니다.

통합의 이유는 무엇보다 낙후와 소멸 위기에 처한,
이 지역의 현실을 타개하기 위함이었습니다.
이재명 대통령, 국민주권정부와 손발을 맞춰,
이제 비로소 이 지역이 얻은 기회를 살려내
그 성과를 시도민 여러분과 나누려 했습니다.

하지만 부족했습니다. 시도민의 선택을 받지 못했습니다.
모든 것은 저의 미흡함 때문입니다.
저를 도와 함께 해준 신정훈 국회의원님, 강기정 광주시장님, 이병훈 호남특위수석부위원장님을 비롯한 지지자 여러분께 죄송스러운 마음, 금할 수 없습니다.
다시 한 번 머리 숙여 깊이 감사함을 전합니다.

이제 앞으로 전남도지사로 복귀해,
두 달여 간 통합의 부작용과 320만 시도민의 불편을 최소화하기 위해 모든 노력을 쏟아붓겠습니다.

어려움에 처한 서민 경제를 살리고,
산업화를 이루지 못한 전남·광주가 미래 첨단 산업의 메카로 거듭나,
청년이 돌아오고, 인구 400만 명을 회복하기를 진심으로 바랍니다.

더불어민주당 후보가 된 민형배 국회의원님이 성공하기를,
저는 두 손 모아 기원합니다.
통합은 전남과 광주가 발전해 다른 지역과 대등하게,
아니 더 앞서 나갈 수 있는 천재일우의 기회이기 때문입니다.
필요하다면 저의 모든 역량과 지혜를 함께 하겠습니다.

전남도지사를 마치면 저는 평범한 특별시민의 한 사람으로 돌아가,
제가 평생 희망했던 전라도, 호남의 발전과 도약을 위해,
노력할 것입니다.

거리에서, 시장에서, 마트에서,
언제나 여러분들과 일상을 함께 하는,
시민의 한 사람으로 여러분을 만나 뵙겠습니다.

Accepts Primary Results, Declares Cooperation for ‘Completion of Integration’
“Wishing Min Hyung-bae success… Will return as Governor to minimize side effects of integration and focus on economic recovery”
Dear 3.2 million citizens of Jeonnam and Gwangju,
This is Kim Young-rok.
First, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the citizens who showed me unwavering support and encouragement during this Democratic Party primary.
I proposed the integration for the advancement and revival of Jeonnam and Gwangju, and throughout this primary, I gave it my all. I did my utmost to meet each and every citizen.
The reason for integration was, above all, to overcome the harsh reality of underdevelopment and the crisis of regional extinction facing our region. In step with President Lee Jae-myung and the people-centered government, I sought to seize the opportunity now before us and share its achievements with all citizens.
However, I fell short. I was not chosen by the people. Everything is due to my own shortcomings. I deeply apologize to and thank Rep. Shin Jung-hoon, Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung, Senior Vice Chair Lee Byung-hoon of the Honam Special Committee, and all supporters who stood by me.
From now on, I will return to my duties as Governor of Jeollanam-do and devote all my efforts over the next two months to minimizing any side effects of the integration process and reducing inconvenience for our 3.2 million citizens.
I sincerely hope to revive the struggling livelihoods of ordinary people, transform Jeonnam and Gwangju—regions that have yet to fully industrialize—into hubs of advanced future industries, bring young people back, and restore a population of 4 million.
I wholeheartedly wish for the success of Rep. Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party’s nominee. The integration of Jeonnam and Gwangju is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our region to stand equal to, or even surpass, other regions. If needed, I will offer all my capabilities and wisdom.
After completing my term as Governor, I will return as an ordinary citizen of the Special City and continue to contribute to the development and leap forward of Jeolla and the Honam region—something I have long hoped for.
On the streets, in markets, and in everyday places, I will continue to meet you as one of you, sharing in daily life.
I will never forget the support and love you have given me.
